New Years Succes Does NOT Equal Buying A Get Rich Program
I originally wrote this as an email but I thought posting to my BLOG would be more beneficial to more people.
I hope you enjoyed your holiday and time with your families.
Since the new year I’m sure you’ve been bombarded with offers. I have. They were mostly the same crap.
It really annoys me when I get the same copy and paste email promoting the same thing over and over.
Something like…
“Make 2007 Your Best Year Ever, Buy THIS!”
It’s too easy to forget in our online world, we’re still sending a message to people, people who want answers to their questions and worries gone.
We’ll over the last year I’ve personally gone through a huge change in the way I do business. Instead of Making Money I’m building a Business. Something most people don’t see the difference in.
If you want to make money online you’re going to have to treat it as a business.
Do something you love doing, do it well. If you love dogs create a website about dogs. If you love movies, make a website about movies you love.
Don’t get sucked into the need to have a sales letter. You will find out this year and through the next years, direct response (sales letter formula) is going to slowly move to the back (meaning used on the backend much much more then the front). Creating communities and places to share a common love will be more predominant then ever (Social Niches - profits from advertising space (not adsense) and affiliate programs).
I think the Google slap is just the beginning of proof you’re going to need much more then a one page sales letter as your main vehicle. Yes you can still presell and send them to a sales letter. It will be just that more important.
We say it the first time with Adsense. For many months people (including me) were
making a killing with spam pages. You can’t build a business on crap like that, that’s money not a business.
Before you build a business I want you to think just like you think when you go to
buy a house. If I had to sell this in 5 years how much could I get for it?
Take into consideration you won’t be running the business anymore so you would need to
be able to hand off to someone else to easily run it. No ones going to buy a business
that is so confusing only you can run it. That’s buying YOU not the business.
Document all tasks that are done in your business for a business plan/outline. Do this
as you go along. It makes assigning work easier.
Building a Business is building a tangible asset for someone to purchase. You don’t want
your business to die when you do. Think bigger, build bigger, and have fun doing it!
One of the few people in the Online “Marketing” field who gets this and has been preaching it for many years is John Reese. He may not be the most vocal about it, but when you listen you’ll hear he’s repeated this same concept over and over. Build Businesses NOT money-makers.
John has a monthly newsletter you will want to check it out here.
Get your FREE copy and decide if it’s right for you (if you believe in building a business
not a money-maker then it will be!).
