2007 The Year Of The Niche!
While niche marketing has always been smart, as the Internet grows, as certain businesses start cornering markets, as markets fragment niche markets become even more important.
As most people know social networking sites like Myspace.com, youtube.com and friendster are absolutely gigantic.
They are some of the most trafficked sites on the Internet. You’ll even see TV ads now where businesses are advertising their Myspace pages.
But, as more and more information is added to these sites, the more and more complex it becomes for people to find what they are looking for.
I found a great example of this.
There’s a website called “myyearbook.com” which caters to a specific niche of the social networking market.
Sidenote: Some people may already be saying “ok who cares these sites don’t make money.” MyYearbook.com has stated it makes $100K+ a month in advertising revenue.
Don’t be fooled by the myth there’s no money in teen markets.
MyYearBook.com is a perfect example of how filling a niche market space can make the creators a lot of money.
I also want to sidenote on 2 important facts that make MyYearbook.com grow so fast (you’ll see on their homepage how many new people registered today, when I last checked at noon on a Monday they had 5K+ new members).
MyYearbook.com has a built in referral program where users tell their friends. Viral marketing lesson #1.
And secondly they have an affiliate program on Commission Junction that pays $1 per registered user affiliates send.
Both of these things integrate business growth into the user process. Meaning, they only need to advertise the website and the site will grow organically without the need to advertise the site, the affiliate program, and do other forms of mass advertising to create a massive userbase.
So with this example how many other niches in Social Networking alone can you think of?
There’s thousands!
And this is only ONE niche out of tens of thousands out there anyone can get into today.
If you have a niche idea, this IS the year to take action. I have a feeling it’s going to
be a huge year for a lot of popular niche sites.
